Liturgical Year 2008-2009
This year had one big theme: 125 years of St Pats! The parish celebrated it's 125th anniversary that October, and I decided to celebrate with the art and environment. Each season is based off a design from a past year, moving from oldest to newest.
Advent - Pre-Vatican II. Yea, we didn't move the tabernacle back to the main Altar, but embraced the lack of any real modern decoration. Even used the normal candle stands as flower stands (as at one point back in the 60's they actually were).
Christmas - Late 70's. In the late 70's decorating was now a thing. The wreath with that style ribbon was used for like 6 or more years in a row, they really loved that look. The center (Altar and step below the cross) is almost an exact copy of Christmas 1979.
OT Winter - Mid 80's. EVERY OT in the 80's looked just like this: white, green stripe down the middle, lineup of plants in the back, candles descending down the steps. Every. Ordinary. Time. So why not do that again?!
Lent - Late 80's. Buy the late 80's "the contraption" was a thing. This was a metal structure that was attached to the now unused back Altar. They just changed up the banners on this for about 4 or so years straight before moving on with life. The banner covering the cross would have fit perfectly on the contraption.
Easter - Early 90's. Go big or go home. Draping banners everywhere! And the introduction of the yellow-green-pink color scheme. Might as well just run with that, right?
OT Summer - late 90's, early 2000's. Simple but elegant. Get in, get out.
OT Fall - Today. Simple but elegant with some flair. The one season it was just me doing my normal, original idea, thing.
