Liturgical Year 2015-2016
2015-16 was the year with three themes: angles, stuff on the steps, and things grouped in three in front of the Altar. This is also known as the Vegas designs, as they all largely were created in the airport/on the plane to and from Las Vegas and MSP. The angle idea originated at Christmas with the idea of the star beams angling though the cross. Then when I got to Easter I found myself using the same angle idea beaming out from the cross. From there Advent, Lent, and finally OT were all angled. I kept an arrangement on the steps in front of the Altar at all times: shepherds to poinsettias, to the cross, to oils, to eastery flowers and candles, to green plants. The final theme was having a simple grouping of three things in front of the Altar itself, and to get that to contrast what was on the steps. One other interesting idea I had for this year was Ordinary Time. I created one design and then used it for the Winter, Summer, and Fall OT seasons (something I had never done before). Winter had the plants arranged with white and red poinsettias while summer and fall had peace lilies, palms, and fall leaves. The banners too going from a white-green to green-white to green-yellow (which everyone noted was Packer colors, so that's officially in the "never doing that idea again" folder). I was also very proud of the Lent-Holy Week banners that covered the cross. The INRI, wreath, nails and blood all lined up perfectly with where they would be on the cross/Jesus statue it was covering.
