Liturgical Year 2019-2020
This was the first year I was fully in charge the whole year. This was the year I was going to take the gloves off and really see what I could do with this church. There also was a theme. I've struggled to get height in the back of the sanctuary, and there were these old plant stands shoved in a closet in the basement. Each stand held 12 plants. I pulled those out and they became the anchor the whole year. For Advent-Christmas I opted to use the tree banners again, still hesitant to offend someone by not using them, but to use them in just a little different style. The blue tree banners were always used, but always behind the white ones (to make them less transparent). I opted to use just the blue banners, and people thought they were brand new. Nope, been there for years. The plant stands were inspired by my trip to Colorado that summer when I started these designs. You can see the snow peaked, evergreen covered mountains. Lent I finally got to use an idea I've had for a good 10 years. Just simple purple candles in the back . That's it. Something I sniped from St John Newman. I was all ready to really break lose at Easter, then COVID.... Oh COVID... Designs became a bit stripped down from what I originally envisioned, plant orders cut. Also, I had to design with the camera now in mind, shifting things to spots I normally would never put them, except they looked great on camera, which for Palm Sunday and Easter was the only way people saw them. By Pentecost the church was opened again and my brain was fried. I HATED the Pentecost, Trinity, and Corpus Christi designs. I wasn't in a good place. But I feel like I rebounded nice for Ordinary Time, so much I couldn't bring myself to change the back draped banners come fall. It was a good feeling to end a rough year.
